"First partner" specifically. TPCi has been using it over the term "Starter" in SV press releases, which comes off as newspeak to fans critical of the choice of term.
The controversy that's been raging in /vp/ recently over all this stems from Bulbapedia changing the title of the article for "Starter Pokémon" to "First partner Pokémon".

Why did Bulbapedia change it? To try to keep it to the officially used terms as much as possible instead of relying on fan-coined terms. This despite having articles for "Effort Values", "Individual Values", and "Base Stats" all using the accepted fan terms as their articles' titles instead of "Base points", "Individual strengths", and "Species strengths" which is stated at the start of the articles.
