When you play through a pokemon game, do you ever use more than 6 pokemon, not counting HM slaves?
I used to only use 3-4 mons when I was a kid because that was how many mons gym leaders used, but then I moved onto teams of 6 as I became older and was more interested in trying out unconventional strategies. But now, whenever I play through a pokemon game, I typically use teams of 10-15 mons on rotation.
I end up becoming pretty underleveled because of it, but what I noticed is that the difficulty that stems from level disadvantages is actually pretty effectively balanced out by my increased ability to customize my approach to each boss. Even just adding a few extra mons to my roster can often be the difference between having 1 or 2 or even 3 type counters to a gym, which can allow you to beat them at much lower levels. Anyone else feel this way?
