I played it weeks ago for the first time.
it's quite fun, only problem is that Kanto have an overabundance of poison type which is very annoying since a lot of your pokemon faint after you walk.
But I would replay it again if I could

Pretty inoffensive, they’re not bad, but they’re not something I’m gonna think about when discussing my favorite games.
Their biggest contribution is letting people rom hack them to make more interesting games.

I don't hate them, but I literally never play them.
If I want to play through Kanto, I play RB.
If I want gen 3 mechanics, I play through RSE.
Unlike HGSS, FrLg lack enough new content/changes to warrant playing imo. Pretty much the only thing they have going for them are the sevii islands. Which are great, sure, and fun to play through, but not enough to warrant playing through the entire rest of the game in my opinion.

As for the base games, they're good. Probably the least whelming remakes until BDSP but they were also the first despite their flaws, Sevii Islsnds was a fun concept. Lots of nostalgia so I can never hate them. A true Kanto experience.

They're the worst games in the series. Every part of it except the Fame Checker and putting Moltres in its own dungeon is a straight downgrade from Red and Blue. I appreciated it at the time because it served as an expansion pack for mons I couldn't get in Sapphire or Emerald, but if I want to play a Kanto game I'd much rather go back to Blue.

They're my favorite games. I don't get people who don't like them, if you don't like FRLG you don't like Pokemon. It's the core Pokemon experience.

Good enough for me, when I want to play through Kanto and am not feeling up to Gen 1 quirks or Gen 8 gimmicks. Sevii Isles completely shift from utter shit to kino for me based on whichever year I make the pilgrimage back to these games, can't make up my mind on them just due to the potential they had.

You can evolve Eevee into Espeon/Umbreon after trading from FR/LG to R/S/E. R/S/E still has a clock system, just no visual indication of time changing.

Has the positives of Kanto but updates certain mechanics and adds a bit of content. Nothing amazing, but it is my personal favorite of the mainline. Good comfort game to plow through in a couple days

Since this is a FR/LG thread, i decided to replay it a few days ago. I don't remember this game being this grindy. I'm several hours in and just made it to the 2nd gym. Was it always this grindy?

When they came out I absolutely loved them. I remember wishing for RBY to be remade when RS first came out and then a year later they were announced. But now if I want to revisit Kanto I just play through the originals instead.

I feel like FRLG never get mentioned on this board. Like another anon, they're inoffensive, but equally they're not brilliant.
It was exciting to play them at the time because of the huge upgrade between gens 1 and 3. I just wish I was able to use new evos like Crobat and Steelix.

They’re good. First time in the series where you will naturally end up over level 50 by the end without grinding, which is a testament to how much content they have.
First time we got league rematches too, and even Emerald and DP didn’t have those, they only became a recurring thing with PtHGSS. FrLg was ahead of its time in that regard
It also has the vs seeker which the only reason why it isn’t in more games is because GF is too lazy to give rematch teams to random NPCs
