Why exactly is the BDSP concept art so different?

Someone decided to make them do the very basic chibi style, might've been Masuda. Though, based on ILCA's One Piece game, they definitely had the expertise to make BDSP look more like the concept art

Because a "concept artist" is just some guy you hire to draw cool shit which the devs always end up ignoring/throwing away for whatever they want instead. Look at the concept art for any game and it's always cooler than the end product.

they could have done chibis and still make the game look decent. Some parts of BDSP look good, there are just certain parts that are so horribly rushed.

the battle backgrounds are also pretty nice, I don't rly see ILCA being incompetent as the reason behind the horrible visuals

I feel like they intended the Gen 4 remakes to be proper scaled ones and this concept art was made during the conceptual stage and not programing stage, when they didn't plan on Legends or going the BDSP route.

I don't really see a point in making concept art if it looks nothing like that game.

People here will be quick to blame Game Freak for it, but I think there's really only so much ambition you can put into a game when you have like a year and a half to develop a game, which is absolutely on TPC for rushing out I'd imagine to have a safer bet to go alongside PLA

the whole point of pokemon remakes is that they’re low effort

if you’re going to waste that much dev time making the game look pretty you’re better off making a new game.
