To me, megas just seem like a fanfic power-trip evolution method you'd see in a ROMhack, but at least it does have some caveat and isn't just something they can do because someone making a ROMhack would make it like that. Anyway, the pokemon they gave them to will now forever be still considered 'mid' and got buried under their own powercreep. Another example, and while I don't think another evo would work for it, Glalie is a "jack of all-trades", but master of none and its mega evo will completely over-shadow it, even if it was a one-trick pony, like most megas.
