No. If you didn't play gen one when it was new, you wont like it. Play shin poke red hack on an emulator instead. It fixes all of the problems the underage whine about gen one having and I despite being a genwunner never want to go back to the vanilla game.

Just play the VC version if you have it or emulate. The gen 1 experience is in playing vanilla and then hacks afterwards.

Retail cart on console + Side games is the way. I have completed my gen 3 setup and now I have access to all of gen 3 content. Definitely want to start doing the same with gen 1-2 but would have to start from nothing

It's obviously worth it, you would experience prime pokemon on original hardware. Emufags need no apply, they edit their savefiles, finish every challenge withing the gen in a couple of days and then forgot about their savefile forever

Not worth getting an actual gameboy, no. I like playing on mine, but I don’t see the point in committing to the purchase of you aren’t going to go all the way with Stadium 1/2, as well. Get a cheap handheld and play the unedited ROM on that if you want a similar experience.
