>>55689613Physical/Special split distaste doesn't come from things not making sense campaign wise. Yeah, it does make more sense for a punch to be physical.
The Physical/Special split is more so a game balance decision.
Quick and easy example: back in Gen 3, you could not damage Skarmory super effectively with physical moves. You had to be a special or mixed attacker to get through it. Thus, Skarmory was an excellent physical wall; despite lacking any form of recovery.
Fast forward gen 4 and 5, and walls really struggle to make an impact. Hyper offense is the only real way to play, because you can always tag something super effective. Furthermore, mixed attackers were more or less just a meme. There's no reason to invest in both offenses if you could just muscle past everything.
Maybe that's what you like though? Stalling to just be neutered entirely? Well, unfortunately, Gamefreak didn't, and they had to heavily compensate defensive Pokemon to keep up come Gen 6 and on.
Notice how stall is so fucking heinous in modern generations? That's because they get everything for free. Regenerator, Unaware, Prankster. Things that used to have to be strategized and take turn economy or EV investment to get are just completely fuckin free. That is because the Physical/Special split made offense so much more powerful, that defense needed to be mindless to compensate.
