In hindsight, these games were never THAT bad.
Like, yeah, they're not as good as Gens 1-4, but they did save Game Freak after they almost completely fumbled the ball.
I think it's safe to say that XY are the next best games after the classic Gen 1-4 period.
Game Freak themselves know this as well - that's why they're going back to Kalos for the next Legends game. They know the potential Kalos has and they want to give it a 2nd chance.
I think once Legends ZA comes out, people will revisit XY as well and realise that they really are underappreciated. And while they aren't masterpieces, they deserve a place next to Gens 1-4 as an honorary 'classic'.
