The changes are minor but arguable fix a significant problem, which is the samey-ness of DP. In DP, house models are mostly repeated everywhere except for some recolors. The colors are brighter in DP and some people think that doesn't fit with Sinnoh's vibe. All the dungeons in DP use generic tilesets. Platinum changed all this stuff - made cities and towns more distinct visually, changed the colour pallete to be "colder", and made places like eterna forest, the great marsh, the galactic buildings, and the wealth of caves, all looking meaningfully distinct. These changes, though minor, make a reasonably significant difference, and I can imagine that mattering a lot to some people.
