Platinum was the final one, as bw2 were sequels and usum were fuck yous.
Yellow added a following pokemon with a unique cry, a plot that was more in line with the anime with Jesse and James showing up, you got all three starters, and also Evee was plot relevant.
Crystal improved the graphics of GS, had moving sprites, and added new story content with Suicune.
Emerald, well I never played RS but I did play fire red and it lacked day and night as well as moving pokemon sprites, which Emerald added(not that night actually looked different mind you) then advanced Steven's story and gave us the battle Frontier while reworking the plot heavily.
Platinum, well I never played the other two so I don't know what it added beyond the Frontier.
Thing is the 3rd versions had effort put into them and are arguably the game of their respective generations to play because of their improvements.
