At the end of my thoughts on the game I said I wished he found a job, and later I said it's not a good look on a resume to get hired and then drop a job in the span of a month (based on announcements he made on his public shitcord) but regardless still wished he found a more stable position soon, and he treated it like some personal attack and said we were speculating over his personal life and stalking him or whatever the fuck

That'd be nice, but we had to do with a mostly off-screen meeting between the two, probably due to the writers not really having a way to have them hang out on-screen too much without having to delve into details about the kiss that the TV censors wouldn't approve of.
It was still pretty well handled though, one of the best episodes of that series. Most assumed they'd just have the two completely miss each other the entire episode.

I was warned that the postgame has fights in the 85-90+ range and I'm nowhere near autistic enough to grind for those levels nor do I want to debug an otherwise "legitimate" playthrough, so I'll be compensating for the level gap with more liberal use of box legends for those fights. I didn't do Paragon, but from what I'm aware, at least in terms of boss fights, you have 4-5 'normal' boss fights left, but you also have a glass workshop style shitty gauntlet (for some reason I didn't think you had to do it in paragon that might really suck for you), and then the final boss which is pretty bullshit
However you also have to do the hardest boss you will ever have to do in any fangame specific for you a Jan-mandated date with Crescent

"Pokemon Master" is just an anime-original term that got tossed around a bit, almost exclusively by Ash after Kanto or so, without ever getting actually defined. This last arc mostly just explained to the viewer that it's not a real "title", but just means whatever you feel it should mean, with the last few minutes of the show being Ash coming up with his personal definition of it.

It's better written than you've probably heard various fags describe it as.

This game is difficult to score because the dev definitely gets better as the game goes on. At its lowest, I feel this is a 4/10 game because while it gets extremely bland, it never outright goes out of its way to piss you off like a bad game does.
At its best this, during the brief moments where everything clicks and works together the way it should, those sections are 8/10 game material.
I'll be nice and average the whole game to a low 6/10, but with the caveat that if the author really went back and put a ton more effort into the presentation of the game to capture the childhood wonder of the anime and "hype" in various scenes, they could genuinely make this an 8/10 game if they put in the legwork. Maybe even higher depending on how much production value and new assets they polish it with.

I mentioned this before, but I think I've accepted this as a good measuring stick for fangames and romhacks in terms of how I feel about them. It's right in the middle between good game and bad game. If I like a game worse than this, I probably think it's a bad game. If I like a game more than this, I probably think it's a good game.

There's been tons of attempts at making Pokemon anime adaptation rom hacks over the years, and they all kinda fail for the same reason, the anime just isn't a story about one guy walking around battling people and winning, and forcing it into that formula just doesn't work and requires all the actually memorable shit to be turned into "npc tells you what happened offscreen" or ignored entirely.

There's a reason Pokemon Yellow just worked in the few anime elements it could, like character designs and gym leader teams, into RGB and left it at that.

I think the biggest problem, especially as the game gets closer to the end, is that the dev is dangerously close to the RPG Maker map limit, so it'd be really hard to really flesh out the game too much without just separating game into "discs", so I would understand not going back and fixing shit

Though that comes with the caveat that trying to force a story that's not really about battling into a game engine where everything that isn't a battle is a cutscene is pretty dumb to begin with.

I played this early Gameboy One Piece game that did a very impressive job translating the anime into a video game, and it wasn't very fun to play because it was just endless fucking cutscenes and "story battles" that were just cutscenes in battle form where you just had to use the correct move to forward the plot. And that was an engine made for that game and not a rom hack of a different game.

I think the last few years of the Ash anime were a fucking mess and making him world champion was a retarded decision that just came out of nowhere and involved absurd levels of offscreen magic power buffs, but the actual finale with determining what a Pokemon Master actually is was well done and makes a lot of sense.

Is it just Ashfags that can't handle the fact that Ash "never actually became a Pokemon Master and never will" that makes it so hard for them to get what they're going for?

It's still dogshit to replay, but it can help.

as much as I don't care for a good chunk of these characters, the parts of the karma files that don't involve melia and the zeight are more enjoyable then chapters 12-15. erin claiming souta's staff, a short runaround for the 7 wonders, a few things being tied up on terajuma, it's not terrible and I wish it just replaced all of the interceptor/archetype reality resetting horseshit that is the actual plot of the game

I would say the game has some pretty good characters they're just trapped in the shittiest story imaginable. Like RWBY.

Funny thing is that he does. In the anime that arc was unironically 100 episodic "hey let's travel to x to do y" stories before a 50 episode tournament arc. It was a fucking mess.

Maybe its just copium but I dunno you can definitely tell there was a real shift at some point in development. They set the timeline for when everything was "planned" at around v6 or v7 iirc, but it definitely happened afterwards

this game is literally just all of the kingdom hearts games but one game, and it's as nightmarish and schizo as it sounds. it wasn't buggy, most of the battles were at least fine, and I was never bored, but the plot is too much for one game. also most of the characters are insufferable, and the few that aren't are usually side lined. oh and the plot doesn't make sense, you have time travel, branching timelines, timeline convergence, resetting timelines, and potentially infinite timelines, as well as fate but also maybe not fate. It's a mess that won't be fixed and I can't imagine playing through it again any time soon. still better then empire
