BW onwards was just Natochenny and co. phoning it the fuck in, occasionally bringing back 4kids vets who'd actually do a semi-decent job or actually getting competent VAs in only to have the worst direction ever make them give the most boring, uninspired performances ever.
Original Series was great, 4kids direction occasionally sucks and their scripts can be a bit quip-heavy but it had that cheesey 90s/early 2000s charm.
AG was alright, the initial swap over to TCPi was a bit awkward but by DP Sarah Natochenny and Bill Rogers really came into their own as Ash and Brock/the Narrator.
BW was okay at the start but towards the end it felt like everyone was just coasting on through with their performances and XY was just garbage.
Natochenny being unable to do them shonen screams when you've got Ash going ORETACHI WA MOTTO MOTTO TSUYOKU with the energy of a heated kid Goku was ass.
Also the dub changes music which will automatically always lose points.
Obviously it's a dub for kids so you shouldn't expect much, but getting in people like Crispin Freeman, Ray Chase or Alejandro Saab should NOT be resulting in such mediocre performances.
