I myself am the type of autist to go for dex completion so I like to catch everything I encounter, but if you don't want to overlevel your team you have to box your team before catching anything. It was so bad for me I had 3 parties of Pokemon I was rotating between to keep them all within a reasonable level and my main team was still level 70 across the board before I even face Professor Clavell or the E4 challenge.
