The former enjoyed XY and DP because they were good shows, disliked BW, SM and PM19 because they were bad shows, and are in general enjoying the new show with Liko because it's good.
Ashtards worship SM and PM19 and hate everything else, and are especially buttblasted about the Liko show because their self insert isn't in it. If you look at what these Ashtards post online, they always hyperfocus on those two series and ignore everything older.
XY is popular because it was good, just like how DP is still popular because it was good, even though everyone agrees the way Ash lost the league was bullshit in both. SM and PM19 are just "popular" because Ash wins in them, which is all the Ashtards want.
