This is one of Pokemon's biggest issues, it's not just that Game Freak are atrocious developers, it's that what the Pokemon fanbase would like is just a different flavor of shit.
Game Freak should be Nintendo's Rockstar, and Pokemon should be Nintendo's GTA and Red Dead Redemption, it should have the best graphics of whatever platform it comes out on. If it's on the Switch it should mog Tears of the Kingdom, if it's on the PS5 it should make Horizon look like an indie game and if it's on PC it should be the second coming of Crysis.
It should have the most detailed open worlds in the industry and should be doing it's own thing, not chase gimmicks other Triple As shit out again and again, such as mechanics that only exist to waste your time like resource gathering.
Anything less than that is a failure for the biggest franchise of all.
