>>55782012Yeah, it'd be very much a fantastical, monster based RPG in a modern setting, which uses that as a backdrop to explore deeper issues. Sort of a midpoint between daddy Dragon Warrior and Shin Megami Tensei's bold new future. You can usually tell where Japanese executive meddling starts and ends, and I'd imagine it'd be similar to that. So think of the tween-teen drama stuff of Battle Network and Persona but turn it up in the Konaka sense.
Villains would maybe not be industrialists as much as land speculators or another type of scum in 80s Japan. The social aspect would run really deep in this thing, but the Japanese don't name their zaibatsus as the enemy because they tend to work for the perceivable greater good. I also feel like it would end up more traditionalist in terms of how the characters act and dress, if not Sazae-san levels. They'd fit into their gender roles more deeply and there would be an exploration of that in ways that Pokemon's wholesale acceptance of late 80s Japan doesn't do.
