These are the reasons why I consider it a very strong pick for a starter:
- Available in the floor levels
- Very common
- Easy to catch
- Can also have pickup so its abilities are really good
- Trivializes the first floors.
- Can OHKO or 2HKO almost any wild moon in the early levels
- Those who survive fake out are eaay to catch
- Learns PayDay meaning you can Fake Out+ Pay Day a ton of stuff and get free money
- Technician boosts "weak" moves meaning you have a 90 BP flinching move or a 90 BP stealing move if you get lucky and get Thief as a TM.
- Normal is a pretty good STAB early game and Dark coverage means you hit almost everything for neutral damage.
There are single stage mons that are stronger like Flamigo, yes. But it's way easier to catch a good mewoth than a good Flamigo.
