I do think SV's endgame "The Way Home" was amazing. I played it blind and slightly high and it might be my favourite Pokemon experience. The game had too many flaws though, and it's worse following SWSH and *shudders*... BDSP...

USUM will always be the last definitive game to me. All mons at the time available, Megas, Battle Tree fanservice (we still had a battle facility..), Rainbow Rocket. They ruined Lusamine's character but oh well.

The algorithm gets confused, all it knows to do is genwar against Gens 2-5 so when two 3D gens get compared it crashes and doesn't spam any bait.

Absolutely incredible that the switch games are so shit that they managed to make the fanbase reminisce about "the good ol' days" of the 3ds era. I can only imagine how atrocious Gen X will be in order to make gens 8 and 9 look palatable in comparison.

They still are. However maybe he's a dumb ass who insists on buying "North America edition" instead of "world edition works on North American 3DSes", which can easily be found at overinflated prices. The only difference with the world edition one that's still $40 is that you get slightly different labeling on the packaging and Active Boeki listed as the distributor, not Nintendo of America. The cartridge is identical, it even has "-USA" at the end of the product code printed on it, and the data on it is 100% byte-for-byte identical to the US version.

Kinda how USUM didn't need to be two versions instead of a normal 3rd game but this way they sell more.

Yeah, that's the thing, half the game is from when you start the game to the 3rd gym.
Then the game falls apart because basically nothing happens anymore and there's almost nothing to do aside from typical evil team shenanigans and collecting badges.

This reminds me of how disappointed I was in Emerald, since before that I had played Crystal, and before that Yellow.
Was fully expecting to go to Johto since the last game let me travel across regions.
But it didn't do that. Didn't even have day and night graphics.
At least sceptile was cool.
