If I can't find an affordable copy of Platinum, would Diamond be worth playing? I kind of want to play Gen 4.

No. DP are the worst mainline games out of the first 7 gens. Platinum made Sinnoh playable.

Just emulate it. Or if you want to play on real hardware, invest in a 3DS and homebrew it. It's very, very simple and you get access to a fuck ton of other games in the process.

Yeah, that's how I have mine set up. Though DS games just look better on DS Lite or DSi. DSi can be softmodded if you have one -- https://dsi.cfw.guide/ -- but DS Lite needs a flashcart.
