>>55818690NTA but personally never liked open world at all as a concept, probably FF12 for me since I think it fit the style of the game while maintaining the classic systemic appeals, Modded Minecraft is great because of it's capabilities proceed most games (progression wise, allowing thousands of hours, my favorite game series is Disgaea so I love grindy games) and GTA is very good for what it accomplishes to do.
Ironically I love zeldas (favorite was twilight and windwaker mix), but I feel like one of the very few that hated BoTW (focus on consumable weapons kills the game singlehandedly), Elden Ring and such are nice but my favorite segments are the non open world aspects, Fallout and such are great concepts but I honestly think they fail on execution, No Mans Sky was bland even after they updated it, I don't like Red Dead because I hate the western thematic and I hate Cyperpunk, Assassins Creed puts me to sleep (why is there a stealth game where you mash attack in the middle of the street and never lose?), sea of thieves is an amazing concept but kind of bland with a focus on silly cooperation and no meat beyond, and last but not least I hate the Nier series personally (I swear to god everyone just likes 2b and that's the only reason they like the series, but I can't speak much on it)
As a concept I think Open World is and always will be weak
