I'm throwing him into a more organic pokeworld, sort of like the anime but plenty different. Designing fantasy power systems is too fun to just copypaste. There are enough similarities between it and his carried over encyclopedic knowledge to mislead him for a long time, even if he wisens up.
>breedingThankfully, breeding is financially unavailable to him. How are you going to hatch 5000 charmanders and expect to pay for it? And that's ignoring issues like legal red tape and moral outrage. And even if he could, what is an "IV"? What will he do if the berry tests don't work?
>using smogon as a guide, but pokemon IRL fight differently so he has to adaptPretty much the intended theme for him.
>how mechanically inclined you goIt's still a bit "gamey" because that's just how this Arceus likes it. But some things simply don't work the way they do in-game. For example, switch/phase moves. Pokemon moves and abilities don't specifically interact with pokeballs like that in this story, which I know is something the anime kept. I've opted to discard this because of inconsistencies with how such moves would act vs pokemon that don't have a pokeball to return to nearby, most notably every wild pokemon. They still have similar effects though. A Dragon Tail's gonna knock that sucker pretty far if it connects.
>Do pokemon only use moves and custom moves are super special rareYes and no. I haven't fully fleshed it out, and I'm getting kinda dumb with this. But generally, custom moves are a waste of time. It's like a Wizard who casts anything other than Fireball: why bother?
>How injured to pokemon getA pokemon will fight to the death if they feel they must, but such occasions are relics of a bygone era.
Still toying with the idea of sprinkling extra evolutions here and there where fitting. I know I'd like it, but I understand a lot of people get very upset over unofficial mons.
