Added gardevoir which is cringe. Rest was OK. Definite downgrade in vision compared to 1 and 2 but they added a bunch of features. (And removed some)

It's kind of ugly to look at, but the tropical setting and its cities make it feel warm and inviting. I get more of a feeling of adventure with the protagonists outfits and grander environments compared to that of the first two generations.

It's Masuda's first time directing a region and he tried to implement a lot of different things so I find it endearing. I wouldn't call it kino due to greedy choices like locking Pokemon like Ditto to other games you need to purchase, rather than implementing it all in one single experience.

I like how gen 3 doesn’t have day/night. It helps cement the tropical summer feel hoenn has.

The EV system ruined it for me. Emerald rectifies it somewhat with Pomeg Berry et al, but it's just not a great system.

Yes, but I never really "got it" as a kid. I just didn't enjoy it as much as Johto or Sinnoh. But now I've come to appreciate it a lot more.

Travelling through Hoenn felt more like a genuine adventure than any other region thanks to the bombastic OST and vastness of the routes. I like Sinnoh for its mythical vibe but it was a very clear downgrade in terms of scale. I won't even get into how disappointing Unova is.

It's not comfy and that's exactly why I played so much of it. You really feel like you're out in the wilderness, especially since half of Hoenn is optional. Hoenn also does a really good job at making you feel like you're in a fantasy world without it being unrealistic (Foretree City and Sootopolis City come to mind). More recent games try too hard to be real.

It introduced me to pokéwaifus with gardevoir... giving psychic pokémon that early in the game as your second starter was comfy.

it never felt comfy to me
a lot of the outdoor environments and weather feel too extreme and harsh
and there's no day/night or daily events and little things like that that make a pokemon game feel immersive and comfy

I used to be a genwunner, but then I truly woke up to the comfiness and SOVL of the aesthetic of gen 3. The game itself has many, many technical flaws, unfortunately.

It was the first gen I viewed as a missed opportunity to make something better, looking at the other GBA games I had. This feeling only got stronger on the DS generations, but I loved each gen from nonetheless because they genuinely felt like comforting adventures.
