4 simultaneous matches with the main events happening at the main stage. I assume theres just a lot more competitors so it requires more simultaneously running battles.

I always wondered where the cars are driven. Like, if there are roads, why does the protagonist have to hike through wilderness everywhere? Surely it would be easier to just follow the road.
I guess it makes some sense in Kanto because it's pretty urbanized, but like in Hoenn, where tf does the truck drive?

The roads are all off screen and the only time you get a glimpse of roads with actual traffic is Unova. Looking for Pokemon is part of the adventure so all the routes in the games go through grassy fields and other places where wild life lives, otherwise the protagonist could just ask their mom to drive them to the next town where a gym is or take a bus
