Yes you can connect to the servers with real hardware if you have the means. However the DS wifi connection is incredibly old and obsolete to the point of not being supported by modern routers. Need to get adapters and everything.
All I'm saying is, don't spend the money on Platinum as even as a collector the prices are dumb. Diamond and Pearl are great games but the even still playing them on real hardware is no longer required except for the novelty.
Save your money and just emulate unless you absolutely want it physical.
And if physical only is the preferred and nothing else, the be sure to follow price charts and see the direction its going. You might be able to predict prices getting lower or higher and make an informed decision.
