Gen 8 maybe had their own things, but they pandered Kanto too much. GF was too afraid to pull a BW 2.0, so they played it safe. That kinda weakened the region, and let's not get into the whole DLC pass fiasco, trying to be the forgotten part 3.
SM and USUM may have their own goods and bads, but it was the perfect note to end.
