Outside of the lol 8 pokemon fight with Violo PLA were not challenging, and that was a great battle but it's just once.

the challenging part of PLA is surviving being attacked in the overworld and being ganged up on by multiple mons, it's not strictly the battles themselves that are meant to be the challenging part of the game

i play monster hunter, i'm not taking that from a pokémon fan. it's very easy to get into a hairy situation in PLA.
