No, they don't. It was pretty much confirmed that they never did and it was a false rumor. The rumor was started by a few tweets. And then any time you have a popular game with millions of people playing it, a few will have their console die while the game is running. Normally they attribute that to a defect or normal wear depending on its age, but with the rumor out there they post that their console died, which further fuels the rumor.

Speaking of, if you get X or Y now don't save in Lumiose city. You can't get the update anymore that patches out that bug that traps you in there when you load in.
I don't think that was added onto later copies either, you have to patch.

It literally took more time to remove pokemon and all those moves than just bringing them all over since for the most part SS is just reused 3ds assets anyway.
It's still recycled 3ds assets to this day without as much content.

To my knowledge it was only if you were in the Wild Area or put your game in standby. I put about 250 hours total into Gen 8 and I just made sure to avoid all Wild Areas, and always close the software when I was done (I close Gen 9 too, just to be safe).
