The competitive battle simulator has always been best used for casual multiplayer. The best official way to casually battle Pokémon with your friends is stadium 2 which came out over two decades ago. Gamefreak should spend more time on party modes and less time pandering to vgc players

making a team and actually researching and shit takes time. Easier to smack "random" and just quit out if it's a bad setup. Half my games last between 0-1 turns.

If they had actually preset easily selectable teams based on performance that you could quickly try out, then it'd be a lot better.

I used to play religiously from Gen 5 onwards for a few years, but nowadays I only use Showdown for when I get bored with nothing better to do, so I haven't made a team in forever, just log on the website, play a couple of randbats and then leave.

You mean least? Taking the teambuilding aspect out of the game takes away a big chunk of the skill and expression, that's why it's popular because it's easy to pick up and play.

Because it's literally random.
What competitive about you getting a team of six shitmons and your opponent a team of six legendaries?
The whole thing is extremely match-up dependent. You can easily sweep your opponent without them being able to do a single thing about it if you get the right Pokemon and they not even a single counter or even a half-assed check.

the legendaries have their levels nerfed to shit to compensate and there's actual thought put behind said levels balanced around win rates
there's also consistent top performers who dominate the ladders

that's because it's the best format. it's both extremely easy to pick up and play for newbies and extremely difficult to master with by far the highest skill ceiling of any format. it's the absolute peak of competitive pokemon.

While it's not surprising, the actual numbers are. It really shows that team building is the largest barrier to entry for Pokemon and if you give people a team they'll be happy to play with it.

Yet the best players constantly win 90% of their matches despite battling hundreds and hundreds of times. Yeah, once in a while you'll get fucked by the match up so that it's impossible to win but rng can fuck you in the regular battles too
