It's refuted by it never being referenced anywhere else as having a 'Crystal Body', only on that card. If it indeed had a crystal body, something from the games/anime/anywhere else would have mentioned it already.

gold is my favorite game and I was enamoured with gen 2 when it released, but i still felt huge disappointment when i bought crystal. the animations were nice but it didn't change nearly enough to be interesting. It's still preferable to GS in many ways if you want to play gen 2, but coming off of GS it was a really lukewarm game. even though Yellow was based on anime, they shouldve taken cues from that game and changed up gym leader rosters etc

Not necessarily. There's tons of random facts that were only brought up once 30 years and saw a resurgence again many years later.
