How come it’s always games with HMs that people do these solo runs in? Why not play a Pokémon game without HMs so you can really use one Pokémon for the whole run?

I was hoping he would do another DBZ Team Training challenge, but it seems like it doesn't get any weaker than Saibaman (Bioman is very slightly stronger and has normal STAB) Maybe he could do an Aqua run. I wonder if he'd consider doing other mods with non-Pokémon dexes.

depends. some solo mon challenges will be difficult even if you grind to level 100. even a regular nuzlocke with no level caps in some romhacks can be hard, especially in the latter half with next to no level advantage.

i checked smallant's video and he overlevels and plays on shift mode lol

If you are using only one Pokémon, it is very difficult not to get overleveled. You would have to go out of your way to avoid encounters. Even then you will still be overleveled as plenty of trainer battles are mandatory.

listen shaun. anyone who does pokemon challenges knows a solo seviper run is impossible because of cynthia. her garchomp is programmed to always crit you with earthquake if you bring out seviper and there's nothing you can do about it.
