the mega seems fine until you realize that it uses up its item slot (so you can't put on leftovers) and that it takes up your team's mega slot so it has to compete with every other mega evolution

I always thought the plate with the horns is a part of the head and turns with the head. It just acts as a neck/back shield.
Because Regular Aggron has that neck helmet plate thing going on as well.

The propaganda doesn't make megas less cool to me. But I still like z moves better than megas. I like both, but z moves are overall the coolest gimmick to me. But neither of them really felt like gimmicks at all, both felt like they easily could have returned in gen 8 as post-game content for the try-hard battlers who want them.

Factually untrue, Mega Evolution is used both for Soaring and Contests in ORAS, meanwhile all other "gimmicks" literally can't be used for anything but battles.
