Weedle is just a weaker sounding version of beedrill. My theory is that they came up with the name for beedrill easily (uhh bee and drill = beedrill) then looked at weedle and said this is the pre-evo and looks weak so name it weedle (wee like bee and the "dil" sound from -dle sounding like drill almost. So weedle is just a weaker sounding beedrill.
