yeah true but the cutscenes are legitimately a major and intrusive flaw. there are some really good aspects go Gen 7 but the juice just isn't worth the squeeze.

There's more issues than just characters not shutting up every time you take 5 steps on the first 2 islands.
>no good place to grind money/exp except the league
>all the stuff tied to festival plaza facilities
>festival plaza being a multiplayer rng hell with a finite number of rerolls
>refresh has less stuff to do with your pokemon than the last gen version did
>every battle ends with the game asking if you want to use refresh instead of getting right back to the overworld where you could freely open it if you wanted to
>rotom dex never leaves you alone even after the story and post-game quests are done
>no natdex section in the pokedex makes keeping track of which pokemon you still need to transfer a pain if you're not moving everything all at once
>every area except poni canyon feels small
>no compatibility patch to make USUM's new pokemon fully usable with SM
>regional forms lead to even more recolor cancer than we already had with shinies
>battle royals are just there, after the forced tutorial there's no incentive to do more
>collecting berries is a pain when half the time you get a crabrawler ambush instead
>ride pokemon are soulless rentals instead of traversing the terrain with your own team or just getting rid of environmental roadblocks and letting you explore in whatever direction you want
>every pokemon got full walk/run animation cycles but you still can't have your pokemon walk with you
>the hardware can barely keep up with the games, double battles chug and if you're playing on an original 3ds instead of the new versions there's good odds you'll experience a random crash or two at some point - they should've made gen 7 exclusive to the new hardware or optimized it better

The thing with refresh is it was made to be different from Amie, more tied to general gameplay which is why you can't use minigames to lower hunger and get puffs to feed and level up to max in one go.
And why trainers no longer give out bonus experience and the second heart bonus is getting that back.
Also Rotom is not that intrusive, it has asked for an input maybe four times by the time after beating Togedemaru and the short quips of "go heal" are easy to miss.

and the game's performance getting optimized so Triples and Rotations never had to be removed
and a functional bottom screen like in Gen 6
and dumping the Festival Plaza in the trash to bring back the PSS
and Inverse Battles
and something else to do besides watch movie, take photos, and leave my Pokemon in the Pelago

It wasn't the cutscenes themselves that are the problem.
It's the fact that the whole direction of the game is just being shuttled around from A to B following these lame toddler characters around.

But it doesn't have one, so you have to sit through like 2 hours of shitty baby tutorials and cutscenes just to play the game, and by that point I've already given up. Gen 7 are the only mainline pokemon games I started I never finished because I got bored. It was so bad I refuse to buy or even pirate any of the newer games because I refuse to sit through more of that shit.

You actually do get a ribbon for winning on Master Rank but Battle Royals are so painfully slow that I don't blame anyone for not putting up with them any further. What were they thinking with that unskippable intro?

It would have helped, but it doesn't change the major problems with it.
