>Why would there be Pokemon in a short path between two towns? Why would it be called a route? The main problem is that it's considered a route, and thusly fails to achieve anything any other route 1 has, such as wild Pokemon, a catching tutorial, secondary and tertiary map elements(always grass, and usually ledges but Unova did water,) and fails to demonstrate a local NPC's personality(usually the rival, but gen 3 introduces Professor Elm's personality this way.)
On top of ALL OF THIS, it just feels like a mundane walk to another town, because there's no danger involved. Hell, you could've at least had Rhyhorn ridable into town. That would've been fucking cool, even if the route had remained a straight line!
>How?>uncontrollable cameraAnon if you can't control the camera, then introducing that it MOOOOOVES doesn't help the player at all. Save the camera movement for the interesting places, like the Battle Chateau, or the castle at Shalour City-OH WAIT it does, which makes the choice to do a fancy camera for a 8 second hallway even more bizarre, and somewhat takes away the impact of these later choices.
>Plenty of them do.I cannot speak for any generation after 7, but I will repeatedly say that the only two generations with anything resembling "out of battle experiences" that are actually worth something are 6 and 7.
If you count story, then I'll add 5, because I quite enjoyed the story, but having a dramatic story is not a Pokemon's strong suit. On top of that, Nimbasa has plenty of cool fighting scenarios, but those don't count. The Musical Theater was a neat idea, but the lack of variety, nor real... anything to it kind of makes it pointless, so I don't like it much. These are the reasons why I didn't count it.
