The problem is that love was putting into animating for Gen5, every mon has its own movement but in 3d, it's usually not as lively, it's just boring to watch.

I have an inherent bias towards 2D since I'm a nostalgic DSfag, but I don't 3D is conceptually worse than 2D for Pokémon. Snap, Stadium and their successors are proof of that.

The 3DS/SWSH era models are pretty lame though. Most look okay (if you can forgive the desaturation), but lots of others look really derpy. Only a handful ended up looking better.

And that's not even mentioning the idle animations, which were generally worse than they were in gen V.

Being that brightly washed out in the concept art is because concept art is always made with the assumption that the mon has perfect lighting from all side.
