Games that actually INCREASE in sales and playerbase after release like Helldivers 2 are outright mind-breaking outliers to the people who actually deal with the numbers, because the largest share of interest is immediately upon release.
Even with Total War: Warhammer III, the release window was not surpassed by the Immortal Empires update that let people actually use their HUNDREDS of dollars of sunk cost. It got close, but it still did not make a new peak. That is how many people do not give a shit past opening week.
