I haven't played any of the switch games, but I've heard people say good things about PLA. Is it actually good, or is it only praised for not being as shitty is SwSh, BDSP and SV?

Emulate it and try it out. Personally I think it's one of the best pokemon games but I have a feeling the gameplay style doesn't click with everyone like the regular games do
