USUM is odd, it lacks national dex but all the pokemon are still in the game.
Personally, I think it was the lets go games. Not because they were incredibly limited in scope, but because you specifically couldn't transfer in Mew and had to pay for the pokeball that was almost as much as the game itself.
I think the success of that damned pokemon.

Switch era. USUM did get some light blowback for not being sequels like BW2 but that seems to have evaporated given how content rich they are. They're almost certainly the best 3DS Pokémon experience and arguably in the upper tier of Pokémon games overall.

It's different more than anything given it's trying to be a normal jrpg instead of "a pokemon game" complete with boss fights, limit break style attacks, and lots of plot. Lillie was the heroine of the story, designated love interest for the male player, etc. Because Youkai watch was seen as a competitor back then.
Especially with USUM it rewards exploration with a ton of sidequests and events, making it so you do want to take your time with the thing.
However these changes make it so that if you want to play in vgc, or are replaying it for a challenge run, then it does drag since it's definitely a slower paced game.

It did, but I think a lot of that is just due to this site's traffic drying up. Lots of people moved on, and the hatejerk for gen 8 reached critical mass on reddit. It's okay though, it will be heralded as the last good pokemon game in another five years.

I had to watch the SuMo trailers a million times for my job so that HEY YO song was seared into my brain. It was also fun leaking the .cia and watching everyone playing the game because of me. Felt like I finally contributed to the game community I had grown up in, at least a little.

I think there's a disconnect people have with the titles. They've always been lower budget, iterative gameboy games underneath all the glitter of the greater franchise. They don't hold a candle to big AAA games because they're not meant to. They sell consistently well and make a huge profit with how cheap they are to make compared to brands like Final Fantasy that are just lighting money on fire.

As the market grows, they're in a spot now where they have to play catch up with Nintendo's other properties. Animal Crossing and Zelda outsold a mainline game, completely unheard of until now. Problem is, their existing pipeline just isn't up to task with churning out a new AAA console game every few years. PLA and ScVi are their most ambitious games in years, but they don't have enough staff or HD experience.

It's easy to shit on them because of the enormity of the greater franchise, but it's a similar problem a lot of developers struggled with when everything went HD. GF just waited even longer to rip off the bandaid, which is why the games visually suffer as much as they do. There's definitely some cluelessness from the old guard at GameFreak, but there's management shuffles going on that show they're aware of this.

Same here. Gf at the time looked exactly like Hilda except had anime huge tits like those pics circulating here. She made Hilbert and Hilda cosplay stuff for us and we'd walk around the malls/Gamestop with 3DSes and a few boxes of their respective teams to trade with kids going for the scratch codes and wifi events at those places. My gf now looks just like Serena except obese (also like some pics here) so even if the Switch games could connect with each other for offline trading, we wouldn't be able to stay long as the target audience of the games doesn't know who Serena is.

We're in the same boat. /vp/ was one of my main boards up until dexit. Now I rarely visit because half the board is coomer furfag/waifufag threads and rabid shitposting takes up a massive chunk of what's left. Only reason I'm even visiting right now is I was considering starting a fresh S/M playthrough.

I used to love these games. It really sucks to lose something you were passionate about. Haven't played any of the switch games and doubt I ever will, since things will likely just continue to get worse.

Which are only valid complaints if you're replaying them and/or are an impatient ADHD child, for the most part they don't affect non autistic people at all.
It's fundamentally different from the complaints that started with gen 8 and got way worse in gen 9 wherein the games are just fundamentally flawed and undercooked even for a single casual playthrough.

Gen 7 really benefited from Its smash bros like pokemon reveals. lt generated a lot of hype with its regional variants, ultra beasts and type:null. I would say the games lived up to the hype they are very linear and full of mini cutscenes which hurts their replayability but when your playing it for the first time it's fine because it actually had a pretty strong story tackling themes that no pokemon game had before.

It's a shame the ultra games didn't really add anything to them or "complete" like emerald and platinum did for gens 3&4. It has extra content and even new pokemon but it tears the story to shreds and and simply replaces tacs on things in the main game. I kinda preferred the x files story for the ultra beasts as opposed to the ultra space portals. It was definitely cool to see where the ultra beast come from but you can really only appreciate it if you played SM and did the post game story that goes into detail about what exactly is happening in these games and what ultra space actually is. Rainbow rocket is a cool boss rush though.

I've replayed BW recently and I almost shed a tear at the ending. Not because of the story, no; but because I had to come to terms with the fact that we'll never get such a high-effort Pokemon game ever again. Gen 5 was the last objectively great generation (and BW/BW2 aren't even my favorite games of the series). No matter how much I liked SM, it was only downhill from there.

USUM is the last game from the series that I can confidently say that I whole wholeheartedly enjoyed. There were aspects that I liked from SwordShield and since it was the first actual mainline series entry on the switch I was willing to forgive it for its flaws since I wanted to believe that gamefreak was going to learn from it. After being shown what ScarletViolet had to offer afterwards, I do not like the transition to the switch.

SwSh is an okay game. Nothing exceptional. It's very much just an upscaled 3ds game and plays like a worse sun and moon for the most part. I dgaf about dexit so most of the game's problems are a result of its rocky development. GF still has no idea how to make HD games.

I suppose when Game Freak decides it's easier to not code the game at all and just ships out empty cartridges in Gen 15 is when liking SwSh will no longer be shilling.

I remember so many people being so hyped and being so pissed when they actually played it back when it released. I had never seen a Pokemon release fall so flat like that.
