It's like a kids' tropical vacation, the Trainer Passport evoking the travel passports that Japanese tourists would use on Hawaii. Consider also the addition of the Photo Club in USUM. I think people overstate the idea that the series is taking a new permanent direction with every release when in hindsight Gen 7 was probably intended to evoke childhood and be the brightest and most nostalgic Pokémon experience.
