Otherwise no, without exp share and/or lucky egg + curved exp it’s way too fucking boring

Yes.
You're supposed to train a full team to have multiple answers to everything. An overleveled starter can only get you so far.

Not really. I won't keep Pokémon I don't like in my team just for the sake of having 6 of them. I'll even try to give HMs to Pokémon I like instead of having a slave that I dislike. Also I think it makes the game more fun

Not in gen 1 and 2. Unfortunately my favourites are cursed with being designated shittermons, so they need all the exp they can get. I'll usually run 3 or 4 in those games.

No. Because you have a full, balanced party, you can just use type matchups to win battles. A level 45 Pokemon can win against a level 65 no problem if it resists its attacks and can counter with super effective ones.

I usually use 3 or 4 and rotate the other slots with things that need levels to evolve to fill the dex out.

I usually use 5-6 Pokémon. Raising only one is boring and too easy, while 5-6 keeps my levels low enough for the AI to pose a slight threat.

Basically, the Pokémon games are easy, and I like to make them slightly harder instead of much easier.
