Cynthia actually does matter unlike VGC because people still care about Cynthia 15 years after the release of DP whereas no one cares about gen 4's VGC anymore.
People also still play Smogon's gen 4 OU. The metagame isn't the same as it was back then, but the point is that it's replicable with the gen 4 games, which still exist, and people still care about it.
Whereas no one is ever going to care about SV's BSS or VGC or whatever you call it now, the minute the switch's online goes down and everyone moves on to the next generation.
Even WHILE it's the current gen, barely anyone plays BSS.
20k games? More games than that on the fucking gen 4 OU ladder than that in spite of it not being advertised anywhere and 6v6 games taking longer apiece.
