They just want to feel good about doing something "nice" in the moment. It's like all those braindead protesters who will never go out to vote for anything. Replace "troon" here with "incel" or "disabled" or basically anybody other than conventionally beautiful and sociable people and it still works.
If you think about it these people are the real disgusting creatures. They will cheer on people to mutilate themselves, tell themselves they are doing a good thing by being so accepting, then turn around and not give a single shit about anything else that happens thereafter.
