I know your pain, OP. A boss battle climax ruined by the stat system, lack of breeding, and autism for trying to get a good roll. I KOed Deoxys during the story because I didn't want deal with the stat lottery until later.
You are checking its stats at the start of the Zinnia battle, right?

Delta Episode was a waste of time.

there was this era from Gen 5-7 (maybe 8 too, I didn't play it so idk) where gamefreak was obsessed with trying to emulate other jrpgs, and they seemed to think that the key to telling a jrpg story was just dumping tons and tons of text on the player. like they were trying to make up for quality of story with quantity of dialogue, and if they just shoved enough cutscenes in your face it must be a good story. thankfully most of ORAS was spared the treatment due to being a remake, but the delta episode is in line with the other games surrounding it (xy & sm)

The main story was also affected, but not to the degree of the Delta Episode and the other games. It was still overly lengthy at times, like going through that 5 minute cutscene after capturing/defeating the Primal in Cave of Origin and getting frustrated at it because you want to check your caught legendary's stats.
