In May's case, her showing more skin adds to her cute design. Bunny bow, more hair seen in front and dorky shoes add to cute factor. I don't like fanny packs in general, but the new design works for her. They nerfed her boobs somewhat, but the skin makes up for it. They seem to design May as a bunny girl without being lewd and they nailed it.
In Sabrina's case, I don't mind the extra skin as she seems to be breaking out of her shell compared to the first design in which she's supposed to be mysterious and closed off. Her. HG/SS hair style is objectively bad and ultimately kills the design though.
