Some of these have flat or smushed proportions like Mightyena and Makuhita. All the Regis look awkward too. Overall they look good, but you can tell why gen 2 went with simple Pokemon designs.

One thing about ORAS that I liked best was the fact that you can receive a NatDex before facing the league. Imagine if RSE did it back then, and we would face E4 with more diversity and less repeatmons.

yeah gen 2 & 3 designs were really influenced by the spriting limitations of their respective consoles. the gba had expanded color palettes so in gen 3 they went wild with colors and more complicated patterns

The limited color palette works so well for these it hurts. In retrospect you can tell how bigger and more colorful sprites were a disservice to the series.
