It was an absolute flop that literally nobody used yet gamefreak tried to force this meme for 4 generations in a row. I dare you to name a feature that was less cared about than this.

I wish they were. We always get the same standard boring box backgrounds. Gen 3 was great because it let you create your own custom box background.

the Pokemon system isn't even that novel, monster catching games were already a thing. Shin Megami Tensei did it first and so did a couple other games before Pokemon. they just popularized it, which admittedly does take talent, but I think it was more because of the presentation and not because they pioneered any systems

BDSP had some nice backgrounds at least since they just remade the DPPt ones. 6th gen was the last time they put any real effort into them. I didn't even realize you could change the background pattern in SV until recently.

SWSH also had wallpapers for the PC, and they're the worst, tied with SV's. Wonder why they made all boxes have Wallpaper 1 by default.

You can tell it's a failed feature because I've never heard anybody tell a nostalgic story about it. Compare that to Animal Crossing where you have that story about a guy sending love letters to an animal then she moves out to his friend's town and shows the embarrassing letters. Or fucking StreetPass, where you have tons of people nostalgic over it and it's barely 10 years old right?

Let's Go and SV are starting to get there. Playing in two player mode and in the union circle were genuinely the most fun I've had playing through the story in years.

All things considered, the chat system they had in gen 2 (JP only) and gen 3 was funny as fuck. I vividly remember my trainer card which was visible to other people in multiplayer saying "ANIME IS NOT GOOD"
Anyone have any good creations to post? Or fuck, maybe we should all go post Pokémon with mail on the gen 4 GTS.
