It's one of those things ruined by later retcons.

In the context of Gen 1, he wasn't just being cocky, he literally was the strongest, because the Pokemon League was just THE Pokemon League, the only one in the world. Come Gen 3, this is retconned into every region (except Johto, which is now the odd one out) having its League and Champion, making Blue retroactively much less impressive.

The game is horrible because Leaf literally just sucks Red's cock this whole game. Red was redesigned to match with Leaf. Red is not going to end up with a hot big boobed mommy. He ends up with Leaf literally the most bland looking girl just like him.

How would they go about doing it? Have the Red and Blue in Masters just wear their SM clothes or bring in another pair of Red and Blue from the future? I don't think there are multiples of the same character in Masters.

It does, but they haven't had two of the same characters yet. For example even though Sabrina has her FRLG design they didn't bring in HGSS/BW2 Sabrina from an alternate timeline/the future for the Pokestar alt

I don't think TPCi would ever allow something like Red (Gameboy) even though that's probably the most reasonable solution (they labeled Red's FRLG design as Classic already in masters). Maybe it's an internal business thing or something .

Blue's first unit was his HGSS outfit which is his standard look in Masters while Red's first unit was his Sygna suit. I guess the FRLG is his default outfit which is why isn't titled classic, but I'm pretty sure Red appears in his Charizard Sygna Suit more than any other outfit.

For years I used to think that the FRLG Red and Leaf were siblings because I looked at their brown hair and just thought they were related because of that and that they both had the same house in Pallet Town. It's something I came up with when I was a kid so it's pretty dumb thinking about it now.
