See that's what happens when you have a successful unit - you carry over as much as possible to the new system, to retain the audience you had (PS2 played PS1 games, PS3 played PS2 and PS1 games, etc). That way, you give your current audience the option of carrying on their collection.

And given they generally debut new Gens on new systems more often than not and this Gen being on current-era home Nintendo hardware, they don't need to waste their debut on the new system with the burner year game. In case you missed it, EAD been making fuck all in a handbasket for Switch as of late, because they're all hard at work making games for the new system, to reveal when it gets revealed. Meaning they're not going to need Game Freak to play launch support. Hell, there's likely a fleet of this/last Gen ports just waiting to take advantage of the beefier innards for launch year already (we know MS were aware of this a few years back). They don't need to make a dedicated version of the game, when the system will automatically PLAY an upgraded version of the game, when played on it.
