>>56020585I usually start off with a general idea of who I'd like on my team, my choice being based on design first and type second (meaning, a type overlap because of a design I like is more likely than no type overlap at the expense of using a Pokemon I dislike).
I tend to also change my plans at least a bit on the go as I progress through the game though. I tend to grow attached to at least one or two early game mons that I used in the beginning so they end up staying forever in my team and changing my plans, so at that point I rethink about my leftover choices and I might majority room for a Pokemon I hadn't originally thought about.
It can also happen that after catching a Pokemon I like design-wise and trying it out on my team,I realize I simply do not vibe with its traits (stats-wise, moveset-wise or ability-wise), and so I replace it with something else I develop a liking to.
So for me it's that I start off with a rather specific idea of my desired options but I'm open to change plans on the go as I actually play through the game and catch other creatures.
Oh I also have a preference for Pokemon that 1. Evolve, 2. Can be of either gender, and I try not to overlap types but I will ignore these self-imposed rules if I really like and vibe with a Pokemon I've just caught.
My first Scarlet run had 4 Pokemon with the same type, albeit only one was a monotype.
