I literally don't believe you. This is an asinine statement because logical progression should be the exact opposite.
The target audience of the cartridge games is 8-year-old kids.
The cartridge games are absolutely not designed with competitive in mind; hence the inability to disable animations, etc.
3v3/4v4 on cartridge was fun to way to pass time when I didn't have internet access as a child.
But now I'm an adult, why should I buy new nintendo products? I'm not the target audience of this series anymore.
Why should I care about anything other than smogon's formats on showdown? It's infinite content at my fingertips, free, and if you care about it, an actual interactable community to follow instead of a faceless corporation.
Nothing against GameFreak either - we wouldn't be here without them ;)
